Jim Knott - High School Principal

My name is Jim Knott and I am the High School Principal at Douglas County West. I am in my 13th year and have enjoyed my time here with staff and students. I previously worked in the Centerville Community School District in south central Iowa for fourteen years as a high school social studies teacher (8 years), head football coach (12 years), and assistant principal/athletic director (6 years). Previous to that, I taught social studies and coached various sports as an assistant at Mediapolis Community Schools (IA) and Marshalltown Community Schools (IA). I earned my bachelor's degree from Iowa State University, my masters degree from Northwest Missouri State University, and my Education Specialist degree from Doane University.

My wife Courtney and I have two children. Our son Jackson (14) is in eighth grade at DC West and loves reading, basketball, and video games. Our daughter Kendall (11) is in fifth grade at DC West and is into fashion, Taylor Swift, and water sports.  We enjoy attending Iowa State University events and doing many types of family activities.

Douglas County West High School has a great deal to offer students. We are large enough to offer a challenging and wide-ranging curriculum but small enough to have manageable class sizes and a full range of extracurricular activities and clubs.
