West African Drumming Residency
Our Kindergarten-5th grade students had the opportunity to work with Ghanaian master drummer, Sowah Mensah, for the second year in a row. Moving forward, we will work to make this an annual event for students!
DC West Elementary School was one of 23 recipients of the ArtsNOW grant, provided by the Nebraska Department of Education, Nebraska Arts Council, and Nebraska Cultural Endowment. With the grant money, our school was able to purchase 25 kpanlogo drums from Ghana, along with 2 stick drums. The addition of these instruments has already made a huge impact on our student population and will continue to do so for years to come.
