Character Information:

Troy Bolton (M)

The most popular kid at East High, he is the star of the basketball team who yearns to be more than what people want him to be. Troy discovers his love for music but refuses to admit it. Athletic, attractive, and a true leader. He becomes smitten with Gabriella.

Chad Danforth (M)

Troy's best friend. A star basketball player, part of the jocks, and second in command. Extremely focused on winning his school's basketball championship, but is slowly understanding that there might be more to this world, including his sparring crush on Taylor.

Zeke Baylor (M)

A basketball player on the Wildcats Team. Energetic and charismatic. He has two secrets: a crush on Sharpay and a love for baking, which he is happy and relieved to eventually reveal.

Sharpay Evans (F)

The egocentric diva star of the school musicals, she is Ryan's older twin and the alpha dog. She thinks being the musical star defines her and clutches the title like her life depends on it, no matter what the cost to others.

Ryan Evans (M)

Sharpay's fraternal twin and a self-delusional 'star in the making.' He typically feels the brunt of Sharpay's attacks and lives under her shadow. Although he possesses a diva exterior, he yearns to change.

Gabriella Montez (F)

The new girl in school. She is trying to blend in and avoid 'labels' at her new school. Eventually becomes Troy's romantic counterpart. Pretty, shy, and smart.

Taylor Mckessie (F)

The competitive head Brainiac of the school and President of the Science Club. She convinces Gabriella to join the Science Decathlon team. Taylor has a hidden soft spot for Chad, which she hides.

Jack Scott (M)

The resident P.A. Announcer for the high school. He is shy and insecure in front of the rest of the kids, but smooth and confident at the mic. Known as the "Velvet Fog of East High."

Kelsi Nielsen (F)

The drama club's rehearsal pianist and student composer extraordinaire who is having her musical produced at school. Underneath her shy demeanor, Kelsi is an outspoken firecracker.

Ms. Darbus (F)

The kooky, eccentric Drama Club teacher. She has her self-absored moments but is still devoted to her students and constantly encourages them. Passionate about the art of theatre.

Coach Bolton (M)

The stern basketball coach and Troy's dad. He lost the big game years ago and wants his son to succeed where he failed. Blinded by his ambition for his son, he is still a good guy and proud father.

Acting Audition:

Jack Scott (M) *Small Singing Role

Yo yo yo, Wildcats, listen up! This is Jack Scott, the Velvet Fog of East High with the Homeroom 4-1-1 on what’s going down and comin’ up this week. The Science Decathlon finals are on Friday; see Taylor, “Learning Curve” McKessie for more skinny on the hooey. All for now peeps!

Ms. Darbus (F) *Non Singing Role

Well once again they forgot to announce the auditions for the winter musical, Juliet and Romeo, written by our very own Kelsi Neilson. By thinking outside the box, Kelsi has brilliantly swapped out a tragic ending with a happy ending in which the two lovers both live…and move to Albuquerque!

Coach Bolton (M) – *Non singing role

But you’re not just “a guy” Troy. You’re the team leader. What you do not only affects this team, but the entire school. Without you completely focused, we won’t win the game Friday. And championship games don’t come along every day… they’re special.

Ms. Tenny (F) - *Non Singing role

10 to the negative 18th power? That's quite impossible. (she checks her notes) Well, Ms. Montez... I stand corrected. I'm very impressed. And (pause) welcome aboard!

Gabriella Montez (F)

1. Remember in kindergarten….you’d meet a kid, know nothing about them and then ten second later you were best friends, because you didn’t have to be anything but yourself? Singing with you felt like that. Like safe, you know?

2. At my other schools I was "the freaky math girl." (can you believe it?) That's all they thought I was...always pointing at me, whispering behind my back. They made me feel like I was a freak – (sad) and I hated it. So, that's kind of why I want to keep a low profile here, you know, so I can (pause) just be me.

3. Guess what? I don't want to do the callbacks, either! Who were we kidding? I'll do the Science Decathlon and you win your championship. It's where we belong. (sarcastic) Go Wildcats!

Troy Bolton (M)

1. My dad’s gonna freak when he hears about the singing thing. My parent’s friends are always saying, “Your son is the basketball guy. You must be so… proud.” Sometimes I don’t’ want to be “the basketball guy.” I just want to be, you know, me.

2. But practice is over, dad. Detention was my fault, not hers. And you know what else? “That girl” is named Gabriella, (softening) and she’s very nice. Did you ever think maybe I could have friends? And my name is Troy, dad, (pause) not Bolton!

3. This isn't about my dad. (pause) This is about me – about how I feel. And I'm not letting the team down. They let me down. (confident) I'm gonna sing. (softening) What about you?

Sharpay Evans (F)

Kelsi, Kelsi darling. I’ve been in seventeen school productions. And how many shows have you written? That’s right. This is the first. Which tells us that you do not offer direction, suggestion or commentary. And you should be thankful that Ryan and I are here to lift your music out of its current obscurity. Are we clear?!

Ryan Evans (M)

Is this some kind of joke? Gabriella and Troy didn’t even audition. And they never even asked our permission to join the drama club. I mean, come on! Someone is going to have to tell that new girl the rules.

Taylor McKessie (F)

You want to know about Troy? I wouldn’t consider myself an expert on that particular sub-species….unless you speak cheerleader, as in “Isn’t Troy Bolton just the hottie super bomb?” Which is why we live in an alternate universe to Troy the Basketball Boy. He has his clique, I have mine.

Chad Danford (M)

Troy Bolton is my best friend. I know how to push all his buttons. Remember, the line of

communication is crucial to the successful deployment of this covert operation… whew! Been working on that all night…My watch says thirteen hundred hours. Are we synchronized?

Kelsi Neilson (F)

If you want to rehearse, I’m usually in the music room during free period and after school…and sometimes during Biology class. Call me on my cell phone and I’m there. Or if it’s easier, I can give you a wake up call and come over with my accordion…..it’s mobile!

Zeke Baylor (M)

Hey Sharpay, now that Troy is going to be in your show, I was thinking maybe you could watch me play basketball sometime. Or I could bake you a nice crème brulee? Or maybe some cookies? Or Tiramisu? …Tiramisu? Why did I say tiramisu??? Aarrghh!!

Martha Cox (F)

Gabriella you’ve changed my life! Because of you auditioning, I’m going to share my secret. Hip-hop is my passion! I love to pop and lock, break and jam. And the truth is, sometimes I think it’s even cooler than homework!
