Mike McMahon - Valley High School – Class of 1985
Athletic Hall of Fame Induction 2021
In the mid-1980s, Mike McMahon helped to set the pace for success in football, basketball, and baseball for the Valley Terriers. He earned four varsity letters in all three sports and was named 1st Team All Nebraska Capital Conference in both his junior and senior campaigns in football and basketball. His football coach Nick Modercin stated, “Mike was the quarterback of one of the most successful teams in school history. His toughness and ability to make a clutch play when the game was on the line was remarkable. He was a great team player who made all of those around him better. Mike led us to the C-1 state semi-finals his senior year, a feat that hadn’t been accomplished before or since that 1984 team. It was an absolute pleasure to coach such a tough, talented, and hardworking player!”
Mike was a gifted multi-sport athlete for the Terriers. He was named 1st Team All-State in football by the Omaha World Herald and Lincoln Star Journal his senior year and All-State in Legion Baseball after his junior and senior campaigns. When asked about his high school athletic accomplishments, in his understated way, Mike said, “I hope my coaches and teammates would remember me as a good person who gave his best every day.” After high school, Mike went on to Midland College in Fremont where he played football and baseball for the Warriors. He graduated from Midland in 1996 with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education and coaching.
Today, Mike works for Hays Custom Carpentry Incorporated as a custom remodel carpenter in the Omaha area. Please welcome Mike McMahon to the Douglas County West Hall of Fame!
