Rachel Wald - Douglas County West High School - Class of 2014

Athletic Hall of Fame Induction 2023

From 2010-2014, Rachel Wald was one of the premier all-around female athletes in the state of Nebraska. She was a three-sport standout at DC West earning four letters in volleyball and basketball, and three in track. DC West Volleyball coach Bob Wald said, "Rachel's love of volleyball was always evident. Known for her powerful arm swing and contagious energy, she played a large part in helping to build the DC West Volleyball Program into what it is today. She continues that today as an assistant coach, helping the next generation of Falcons make their dreams a reality. It is an honor to have a former player inducted into the Hall of Fame. It is an even greater honor to have that player be my daughter."

Although basketball and track were not her premier pursuits, Rachel found success through team play, hard work, and a never-ending will to win. Head Basketball and Track Coach, John Brockhaus stated, "The personal traits that come to mind when I think of Rachel Wald are work ethic, intelligence, and extreme competitiveness. Like all great athletes, she was at her best in the most competitive games or meets." Rachel qualified for the state track meet in the Shot Put in 2013, throwing a school record 37' 11 ¾" and was also named NSAA Academic All-State in Basketball three times.

On the volleyball court, Rachel became a star early on in her high school career. The accolades started rolling in after her freshman year when she was named to the NCC 2nd team and followed with three straight years of being named to the NCC 1st team.

At the state level, she was touted for all region and all-state honors her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. She holds school records in career kills with 1,340, career aces with 211, career blocks with 149, and hitting efficiency in a season at .442. Her most memorable moment was beating Wahoo in volleyball for the first time in school history. Rachel stated, "I hope my teammates would remember my work-ethic and energy since I was voted 'Most Dedicated' by my teammates all four years of high school."

After graduating high school in 2014, Rachel attended Bellevue University to play volleyball and study business marketing. She graduated in 2017 and currently works at Lutz Business Solutions in Omaha as a Data Integrity Coordinator. She also continues to give back to the sport she loves by coaching volleyball at Club Legacy and is in her fourth year as a varsity assistant volleyball coach at DC West.

Please welcome Falcon great, Rachel Wald to the DC West Hall of Fame!
