Randy Egbarts
Randy Egbarts - Valley High School – Class of 1977

Randy Egbarts was an outstanding athlete who set the pace for the Valley Terriers in the mid to late 1970s. He was a multi-sport star who earned 12 athletic letters including four in football, four in basketball, and four in track. In football, he was twice named All-East Central Nebraska Conference and was an Honorable Mention All-State selection following his senior campaign. Valley Football Coach John Templeton stated, “Randy was as hard-nosed and tough as they come. He loved the competition and our teams of that time reflected his toughness and winning spirit.” Randy’s most memorable football moment was knocking Mount Micheal, and their legendary coach, Jim “Killer” Kane, out of the playoffs.
In track, Randy was a stalwart in the distance events. In 1975, he placed 5th in both the one and two mile races at the State Track Meet. He concluded his senior track season with a 2nd place finish in the two-mile run at the state meet. He holds the all-time Valley High School records in the 800-meter run at 1:54, the one-mile run at 4:24 and the two-mile run at 9:49. Valley Track Coach Dan Ohlrich said, “Randy worked extremely hard and was a great competitor. He was someone his teammates and coaches could always count on to give his very best every time out.”
After high school, Randy went on to work for the 3M Corporation. He held numerous positions through the years and retired in 2021 after 42 years of service. He and his wife Tammy have been married for 39 years and have four children; Nate (Trish) Egbarts, Adam (Maggie) Egbarts, Lea (Nate) Wegner, and TJ (Micaela) Egbarts, along with ten grandchildren.
